Art Director/Designer/Finished Artist at Ogilvy & Mather Mazengarb
March 1993 - January 1996When I joined O&M,M my responsibilities included design and finished art for annual reports, retail press, catalogues, logos and brochures from within the studio. After two years I moved into a creative team as an advertising art director. Recommendation - Chris Bellears, Senior Writer - 15.01.99 "As far as references go, this one should be taken with a grain or two of salt. After all, I'm a copywriter, and convincing people with words is what I'm supposed to do for a living. However. I've worked with Jo for over five years. I've worked closely with her for two years. She was my art director for more than 12 months, so I feel I have some inside knowledge on what makes Jo tick. I watched her evolve from a talented designer into a very talented art director. She embraced the idea that good art direction has much more to do with great ideas, and less to do with pretty pictures. She can write a TV script. She can whip up a quick pantone layout. She knows a great idea from a mediocre one. And she can even spell the odd nine letter word. You'd be mad not to employ her, because I know for a fact that she'll work her guts out for you. Shit. I miss her already! p.s. If this sounds too good to be true, call me at Clemenger Tasmania"
-
Designer/Finished Artist at Scan Creative & Marketing
February 1990 - January 1993Scan Creative produced design and finished art for local brands, including catalogues and press for Automart Superstore, Bumper'T'Bumper and Holden and well as logos and local ad campaigns for The Hilton Hotel, Conrad Jupiters Casino, Queensland Tourism and Wet 'n Wild. Here I first experienced the value of an idea, and a Mac to save me from the darkroom!
-
Junior Designer/Finished Artist at IDP Design Consultants
February 1989 - January 1990Recommendation - Graham Maudsley, Design Director - 30.01.90 "During her stay at IDP, Joanne proved very willing and able to cope with the pressure of a busy studio environment. She gained experience of using a P.M.T. camera, type specification for photo setting, design, technical illustration and all stages of studio production. Above all she produced fast, clean and accurate artwork for company brochures, price lists, in-house magazines, promotional posters etc. I am sure she will prove to be a very valuable member of a design team."

Senior Art DIrector at Freelance
July 2010Concept development, art direction, design and finished art for traditional advertising, digital, new media & print media communication. Brands include Independent Distillers - Pure Bred Bakery, Vodka Cruisers, McCormick, KEEN'S, Aeroplane jelly, Moose Toys, Heinz, Trident Foods, King Oscar and Greenseas. Recommendation - Pamiela Kaplan, Creative Director, BADJAR Ogilvy - 08.02.12 "Why you should hire Joanne Harvey. It's hard to find an art director who is passionate about their work without being precious. Who is fastidious about detail without being a pain in the butt. Who responds to a brief with strategically sound ideas - and not just a clever visual. But this is the kind of art director that Joanne is. In the more than 7 years that she was part of my team at BADJAR, she never once let me down by missing an opportunity or a deadline. BADJAR was a highly competitive environment in which team competed against team on the same briefs. For many creative people this was an exhausting way to work. It can bring out your best or your worst. For Jo, it brought out her best. She worked harder to find a fresh and unexpected answer to a brief and then brought it to life to the highest standards. At a personal level, I never saw her get involved in petty politics or jealously bad mouth colleagues and her attention to detail and professional manner meant that clients trusted and respected her. I have continued to work with Jo on a freelance basis whenever possible and she is as passionate as ever about doing great work. If you'd like to know more, feel free to call me"
